The Fort Worth Zoo is open every day of the year and is a great place to visit with the family during the winter holiday or at any time. It has over 540 species of animals, including 72 species of mammals, nearly 150 species of birds, and one of the country’s largest collections of reptiles. The zoo is dedicated to education and conservation and is involved in breeding programs to increase the populations of certain animals. Fort Worth Zoo is located at 1989 Colonial Parkway and is open most days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Learn at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is a great place to go when the weather turns cold. You and your kids can spend hours here learning about everything from dinosaurs to scientific innovations. The museum is located at 1600 Gendy Street and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. However, it is closed on Monday. Tickets are $12 for juniors and $16 for adults and will get you into the exhibits, the Cattle Raisers Museum, the Children’s Museum exhibit, as well as the Noble Planetarium.
Ice Skate at the Stockyards Rodeo Rink
The Fort Worth Stockyards is an important historical and cultural district where you can dine, shop, and watch the twice daily real-life cattle drive. This holiday season you’ll be able to put on your skates and enjoy the Stockyards Rodeo Rink. This 4,000 sq-ft rink will be open from late November until early February on the lawn of the Livestock Exchange Building. Watch The Nutcracker at Texas Ballet Theatre
Looking for an extra special way to celebrate the holidays with your loved ones? Why not treat your family to a night at the Texas Ballet Theatre? The Nutcracker Ballet is a holiday classic that is sure to delight and get everyone in a festive mood. Watch Clara as she goes on a magical journey filled with wintry delights, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and wicked mice. This ballet opens on December 9 with shows on select days until December 24. Ticket prices range from $55 to $90, depending on which time and day you go.
Plan a Family Fun-Day at Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark
Winter doesn’t mean you have to put away your swimming suit. Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark is open year-round, and it will be open most days throughout the winter break from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are slides and rides for all ages to enjoy, with epic loops such as the Texas Twist for the older kids, and the Rascal’s Roundup where the little ones can enjoy an aquatic fort with kiddie slides, sprinklers, geysers, and more. Everyone can enjoy a relaxing float down the Lazy River or swim in the pool.
Kids Will Love the Explorium Denton Children’s Museum
The Explorium is a hands-on learning museum for children 12 and under. Your kids will be able to explore science, technology, art, and more through exhibits and activities in a safe and supportive environment. The museum is located at 5800 I-35 in Denton, just north of Fort Worth. It’s open from Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Sundays are reserved for private birthday parties. Tickets are $5 for both adults and children, or free for members. Saturday Story Hour starts at 10:15 a.m., and other events happen throughout the month.
Explore Aviation at the Frontiers of Flight Museum
The Frontiers of Flight Museum offers a fun day out for aviation enthusiasts of all ages. Exhibits cover everything from early aviation attempts to spacecraft and the future of flight, and lots of stuff in between. Check out the life-sized model of the 1903 Wright Flyer, the Apollo 7 Command Module, a replica of the Sputnik 1, and many more amazing historic aircraft and spacecraft displays. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Interact With the Animals at SeaQuest
SeaQuest is an aquarium and petting zoo where you can touch, feed, and interact with animals from around the planet. Activities offered include meeting and feeding Asian otters, getting to meet and hold a Kinkajou, also known as a honey bear, and snorkeling with stingrays. Certain activities need to be booked ahead of time and the cost is in addition to the admission ticket. However, there are plenty of animals to see and interact with if you prefer to just drop by the aquarium at 1974 Green Oaks Road, Fort Worth.
