Driving Range of the 2023 GMC Hummer EV

All Hummer EV trims offer a driving range of well over 300 miles on a full charge. That’s impressive, considering this big truck produces 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque from its three-motor powertrain. The Edition 1 trim, the original Hummer offering all its features, has a driving range of 329 miles. The Hummer 3X, introduced for the 2023 model year, improves your driving range to 355 miles. A big reason for this is the addition of 22-inch wheels and 35-inch sports tires.

The Hummer 3X is available with an off-roading package. This setup swaps out the 22-inch wheels for 18-inch versions and adds all-terrain tires. Due to the added off-roading performance, your driving range drops slightly to 329 miles, the same as the Edition 1’s range.

The Hummer EV’s powertrain is completed with an all-wheel-drive system that provides improved control either on the road or off-roading and a 212 kWh battery pack. If you’re unfamiliar with charging a vehicle’s battery, the Hummer EV requires between 16 and 24 hours on a Level 2 charger, which you’ll find at many public stations. Faster Level 3 chargers can add 100 miles of driving range in just 10 minutes.

A Level 3 charger comes in handy if you’re on a longer drive and need to top up your battery quickly to complete your trip. However, Level 2 chargers may prove more cost-effective for day-to-day driving.

2023 GMC Hummer EV Towing Capacity

The Hummer EV’s strong powertrain provides a solid towing capacity. Your best option is the 3X trim with 22-inch wheels, which offers a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds. If you struggle to visualize what this means in practical terms, it’s enough to haul a large camper out of town for the weekend. The Edition 1 and 3X with the off-roading package offer a slightly lower towing capacity of 7,500 pounds. This limit will prove sufficient for many towing scenarios, whether for recreational or work purposes.

If you’ll be transporting materials and tools in the cargo bed for your next project, you’ll have a 5-foot-long bed to work with. There’s also a front trunk, or “frunk,” providing about 11 cubic feet of cargo space. It’s ideal for storing a few grocery bags or a carry-on bag.

What’s New for the Hummer EV in 2023?

The biggest change for the 2023 model is the addition of the 3X trim. In the previous model year, the Hummer Edition 1 was the only configuration of this truck. The Edition 1 is an extremely attractive option, offering all the off-roading and infotainment features you could wish for.

However, the 3X trim allows you to configure your Hummer to meet more specific needs. Its standard setup is a good choice if you plan on taking your truck on longer drives due to its longer driving range. In addition, you benefit from the higher towing capacity and better on-road performance with the sports tires.

GMC has indicated that a lower-priced Hummer EV option could be released for the 2024 model year. This option will provide buyers with an option who prefer to get behind the wheel of an entry-level truck and don’t mind giving up on some of the Hummer’s infotainment and performance features.

2023 Hummer EV Interior and Tech Features

Most of the interior and infotainment features in the Hummer EV remain the same for 2023. The cab includes two spacious rows of seating that can easily accommodate five passengers, and you’ll find equipment for installing child seating in the rear row. The cabin is fitted with synthetic leather upholstery and features heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

The infotainment system consists of a sizeable 13.4-inch touch screen and a premium 14-speaker stereo. You’ll have no shortage of connectivity options thanks to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB ports, and Bluetooth.

In addition, you get a navigation system to direct you to your next destination, wireless device charging to keep your devices running, and a Wi-Fi hotspot for easy internet access.
