This post will examine what’s new in the 2023 GMC Acadia and what’s remained the same since the 2022 edition. So, let’s dive in.
Exterior Styling

At its core, the 2023 Acadia is a carryover model. So, as you might expect, it has retained much of the exterior styling of the 2022 edition. That being said, the latest installment comes with three new exterior paint color options to choose from: Ultra Blue Metallic, Sterling Metallic, and Volcanic Red Tintcoat. Each of these new hues is available on every trim level of the 2023 Acadia at an extra cost.
Some exterior paint options deleted from the lineup since the 2022 version include Cayenne Red Tintcoat, Midnight Blue Metallic, and Satin Steel Metallic.
Trim Levels
Like its 2022 predecessor, the new Acadia is available in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The base level SLE trim’s definitive features are its 18-inch aluminum wheels with dark accents. Higher up the lineup, the SLT trim comes with most of the features of the SLE but stands out with its leather-appointed first- and second-row seating.
The AT4 model is designed to provide a better off-road driving experience than the two earlier trims, thanks to its traction select system. It also features an active torque control all-wheel-drive system, which enhances its grip on low-traction roads by sending torque from the front to the back of the vehicle and from side to side at the rear.
As the premium trim level of the Acadia, the Denali model comes with an assortment of luxury features, including a head-up display and 20-inch machined aluminum wheels. Premium perforated leather-upholstered seating is standard on the front and the second row of seats, as well as Denali-embossed sill plates. Optional features available on this trim level include high-definition surround vision, power adjustable passenger seats, ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats.
Engine and Performance
The 2023 Acadia hasn’t seen any changes to its drivetrain from the previous year. Its base engine is the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers an output of 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. There’s also the option of a 3.6-liter V-6 engine which generates 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque.
Both of the Acadia’s engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission on all trim levels. All Acadia models come standard with front-wheel drive, whereas all-wheel drive is optional. Higher trim levels, such as the Denali and SLT models, also feature adaptive suspension, which offers a much smoother ride on rough roads.
Like its predecessor, the 2023 Acadia maintains a towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. It also delivers similar fuel efficiency traveling at 22 mpg in cities and up to 29 mpg on highways when running on the four-cylinder engine. This means you can expect to spend less overall on fuel than you would with most of its competitors.
Interior Styling and Cargo Space
On the interior styling front, the 2023 Acadia hasn’t undergone any significant changes. The user-friendly cabin layout on the 2022 version remains intact in the new edition. This means that features such as keyless start, an adjustable steering wheel, heated mirrors, and power mirrors come standard, just as they did on the previous year’s models. Optional interior features that have been carried over include remote engine start, hands-free liftgate, and remote trunk release.
Overall, the interior of the Acadia is highly intuitive, and most of the controls can be accessed easily from the driver’s seat. On the dashboard of every Acadia, there’s a black-and-white gauge cluster with red needles, which provide the driver with basic information about the state of the car. Denali models also have a reconfigurable center screen that provides additional vehicle information depending on the selected settings.
Regarding cabin and cargo space, the new Acadia keeps the same dimensions as the 2022 version. While the front and second rows have fairly decent legroom, the third row is a bit snug and is better suited for children rather than adults. While the trunk space is pretty limited, folding the third row of seats creates more space for hauling sizable luggage.
Infotainment
The 2023 edition of the Acadia hasn’t seen much change in the infotainment and connectivity arena since the previous year’s model. A Wi-Fi hotspot and a plethora of USB ports come standard to keep you connected whenever you’re on the road.
Some optional features include AM/FM stereo, auxiliary audio input, a premium eight-speaker sound system, an MP3 player, and smart device integration. The Acadia infotainment system is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
The 2023 installment of the Acadia has kept the safety and driver assistance features available on its immediate predecessor. The GMC Pro Safety Plus suite, available on all trim levels, comes with an automated emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control is optional across the lineup.
Like its predecessor, the 2023 Acadia is a decent three-row SUV that strikes a balance between performance, aesthetics, and comfort. While many of its features have remained the same since the last edition, the introduction of a bold new exterior paint color lineup is certain to excite many fans of this iconic SUV.
