GMC’S 2022 SUV LINE-UP WHAT IS NEW?
Formerly known as the General Motors Truck Company, GMC has been around for more than a century. It started in the early 1900s as Grabowsky Motor Vehicle Company before changing its name to the Rapid Motor Company. General Motors founder William C. Durant bought Rapid Motors and its entire inventory in 1909. More than a hundred years later, GMC is a leader in the SUV industry, producing some of the most premium and top-performing models. Our experts at Hiley Buick GMC of Fort Worth review GMC’s 2022 SUV lineup.
2022 GMC Acadia
The Acadia is a spacious, family-friendly SUV with 79 cubic feet of cargo space and towing capabilities. The 2022 Acadia has a nine-speed automatic transmission, and both engines are front-wheel drive (FWD) with the option of AWD.
GMC offers several versions of the 2022 Acadia, including the base SLE trim, mid-level SLT trim, AT4, and Denali. The base SLE model features two engine configurations: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder capable of delivering 228 horsepower and a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 310 horsepower. You also have the option of choosing between 18- and 20-inch wheel designs. The mid-level SLT trim offers features like remote start, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a hands-free tailgate, and in-dash navigation. It also features standard LED lights, keyless entry, push-button start, and power-adjustable mirrors.
Every model of the 2022 Acadia comes with a Pro Safety Plus Package and Traction Selection with features like IntelliBeam headlights, forward collision alert, and front pedestrian braking.
AT4
The AT4 trim features a rugged, off-road design, dark finishes, and all-terrain tires with 17-inch gloss black wheels. It has GMC’s Active Torque Control all-wheel-drive (AWD) system to optimize traction. The system achieves optimum traction by automatically delivering torque to the wheel that needs it most, making the AT4 ideal for off-road driving on trails like those at Eagle Mountain Park and Cedar Ridge Preserve.
The AT4 also has new driver-assist features like:
- Hill Descent Control: It uses anti-lock braking automatically to ensure a controlled and smooth hill descent without the driver having to engage the brakes.
- Hill Start Assist: It holds the brakes momentarily under certain conditions to allow the driver to accelerate with minimal backward movement during the transition.
- Adaptive Cruise Control: It automatically adjusts the shock absorber damping force every two milliseconds using a Continuous Damping Control Suspension system to deliver a smooth, comfortable ride.
- Hitch Guidance With Hitch View: It helps you line up the hitch to a trailer using a close-up camera. It also allows you to check your trailer via the Rear View Vision Camera View.
Denali
The Denali trim is designed for luxury. The exterior features chrome wheels, body-color lower moldings, a unique grille, LED headlights, and LED taillights. The 2022 Acadia Denali has all-wheel drive and is equipped with 20-inch Machined-Aluminum Wheels with black accents. It also comes with GMC Pro Safety Plus to increase driver awareness and improve vehicle handling.
The GMC Acadia SLE and SLT have a starting MSRP of $34,800; the Acadia AT4 has a starting MSRP of $41,400; and the Acadia Denali has a starting MSRP of $46,600.
2022 GMC Terrain
The Terrain is a compact five-seater SUV. It’s equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission capable of delivering 170 horsepower, making it an excellent vehicle for off-road driving. It can come with either 18- or 19-inch wheels, and it has a variety of paint job options, including Desert Sand Metallic, Marine Metallic, and Cayenne Red Metallic. Both the SLT and AT4 trims of the Terrain have an infotainment and connectivity suite with a Tech Package, equipping the 2022 Terrain with a head-up display and HD surround vision camera.
The Terrain’s safety suite includes the GMC Pro Safety Plus Suite. The base SLE FWD model has a starting MSRP of $27,900; the mid-range SLT FWD model has a starting MSRP of $31,900; the rugged AT4 has a starting MSRP of $34,000; and the luxurious Denali has a starting MSRP of $36,600.
2022 GMC Canyon
Undoubtedly the smallest car in GMC’s 2022 lineup, the 2022 Canyon has a standard 2.5-liter engine and a six-speed transmission with 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. GMC also provides the option of upgrading to a 3.6-liter V-6 engine and an eight-speed transmission with 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. Crew cab models with the upgraded engine configuration have a payload capacity of 1,570 pounds. Drivers who regularly haul heavy cargo have a third option: a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine with 181 horsepower, 369 pound-feet of torque, and a 7,700-pound towing capacity.
The Canyon comes in various trims, including the AT4 with a starting MSRP of $38,400, the Elevation with a starting MSRP of $30,300, and the Elevation Standard with a starting MSRP of $26,800. The AT4 is excellent for off-road driving thanks to 31-inch Goodyear DuraTrac tires and an AT4 Off-Road Performance Package with off-road features like rocker panel protection, skid plates, and exclusive badging.
2022 Hummer EV
This is probably the most anticipated vehicle in General Motors’ entire 2022 lineup. GMC surprised many auto enthusiasts when it announced that it would produce an electric version of the Hummer. The Hummer EV is designed for off-road driving and can handle all kinds of rough terrains thanks to Adaptive Air Suspension tools like Extraction and Crab Mode. Ultravision grants drivers a clear view around and under the truck, while sturdy underbody armor protects the underside from debris.
With a massive 200kWh battery with 350 miles of range, the e4WD system, and a three-motor system, the Hummer EV delivers 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. The most expensive Edition 1, with a starting MSRP of $112,595, will be available in 2022, while the other two trims will hit the market in 2023 and 2024.
