2022 GMC Sierra Gets New Tech Upgrades — What’s New?
If you’ve been paying attention to the new GMC lineup, you may have noticed that the 2022 GMC Sierra is getting an upgrade with its new model. Tech upgrades enhance your convenience and safety on the road. If you’ve been considering upgrading to a new vehicle, the brand-new tech upgrades on the 2023 GMC Sierra may be worth your while.
Super Cruise Control
Adaptive cruise control helps you maintain a safe following distance between your vehicle and the car in front of you and is available on all trim levels. This kind of cruise control reduces the frequency with which you need to brake or accelerate, reducing driver fatigue on long drives. Super Cruise — a hands-free driver-assistance system — expands on this concept.
The Super Cruise system is much like traditional cruise control. As with cruise control, it helps you to make automatic lane changes safely. Super Cruise uses a combination of map data, cameras, sensors, and GPS and works with a driver attention system that determines where the driver is looking. When the driver appears to turn away from the road for too long, a steering wheel light goes on to help to regain the driver’s attention. You can also use Super Cruise when hauling a trailer, though its use is slightly limited for this purpose.
At the moment, not all roads are compatible with Super Cruise. This could change in the future, but the system’s reliance on map data means that not every road is listed. Approximately 200,000 miles of roads are currently compatible with Super Cruise.
Three Types of Displays
Some trims offer more than others. For example, the Sierra Denali Ultimate is full of comfort and tech upgrades, such as the 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The display uses the built-in services that come with Google products, including Google Maps and the Google Play store. The screen also offers split-screen functionality.
As the driver, you’ll also have access to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This minimalist display tells you everything you need to know while on the road. You’ll quickly be able to assess your speed, tire pressure, temperature, and other key measures. You can even throw some of that information onto the windshield with a 15-inch display.
The windshield display is also called a head-up display. This screen sits low on the windshield, so you only need to glance down to see it while driving your vehicle. This 15-inch display offers multiple colors, and you can adjust the brightness and position of the information. While the details are not yet entirely clear, it’s possible that you may be able to customize the information that appears on the display.
Automatic Windshield Wipers
While automatic headlights used to be the latest feature, auto windshield wipers are increasingly popular. Some trim levels offer Rainsense automatic wipers. These wipers turn on automatically when their sensors detect rain on your windshield. This feature is available for the AT4 or Denali trims, and it can save you time and trouble when trying to focus on the road as the downpour becomes more intense.
Safety Technology
Safety features are among the most important technologies available in newer cars. GMC Pro Safety offers advanced collision-avoidance tech and other forms of driver assistance. These safety features come with all the trim levels.
Automatic emergency braking is one of the most impressive safety features available for the Sierra. Improving technology has made this feature standard on all trim levels. This braking system uses its cameras to provide hard braking in an emergency, so long as your vehicle is not traveling at over 50 mph.
If you plan to haul a trailer, the GMC Sierra may also appeal with its Prograde Trailering System. This is an add-on that you can purchase with your trim selection to help you hitch and tow your trailer, but it can also help you streamline your trim. This add-on also offers a Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert to give you extra reassurance on the road. You can also connect with an in-vehicle trailering app that can monitor your tire pressure, send you maintenance reminders, and provide other benefits.
Multiple Camera Views
Multiple camera views can make a difference to your safety and the safety of your passengers. More camera angles give you more information so you can make better-informed decisions. The new GMC Sierra offers up to 14 camera views, including surround view images and rear side views. Back-up cameras are especially helpful for leaving your home or easing out of a driveway, but side views are beneficial for those times you aren’t certain whether there might be something near the tail end of your vehicle.
If you plan to tow, you’ll be especially happy to know about the cargo bed view, rear trailer view, and inside trailer view. You can keep an eye on your cargo and ensure you’re hitched up safely.
Different Ways To Stay Connected
The 2023 Sierra also offers a seamless connection thanks to GMC Connected Services. This service offers compatibility with Google and Alexa. You can also connect to in-vehicle apps for music, and there’s a Wi-Fi hotspot. Whether you have children who need to do homework in the truck, or you want to maintain a seamless connection with your work emails, the connectivity afforded by the 2023 Sierra will provide a sense of freedom.
Surround Sound Audio
Sound systems are especially important because people spend a lot of time in their vehicles, even when they aren’t driving. Campers, road trippers, and even commuters will love this audio system. Surround sound is another key feature of the 2023 GMC Sierra. The interior offers a 12-speaker Bose system with surround sound that works well for everything from movies and music to podcasts and audiobooks.
