What is GMC Remote Start?
Easy to use and exceptionally convenient, the Remote Start feature is widely available on New GMC models.
All Remote Start vehicles come with a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter, which keeps your vehicle running for up to 10 minutes after you press the button on your key remote keyless entry transmitter (Key Fob). Activating your RKE transmitter will ignite your engine and start to run pre-set heating or cooling options, depending on your preference. If your car is not equipped with automatic climate control, the system will default to the heating or cooling settings from when the vehicle was last turned off.
How to Use Your GMC Remote Start System:
Use GMC Remote Start with an RKE Transmitter:
If you're using your RKE transmitter, here's how you turn on your GMC Acadia, Canyon, Savana, Sierra, Terrain, or Yukon with factory remote start:
1. Point the RKE transmitter in the direction of your vehicle.
If you're using your RKE transmitter, here's how you turn on your GMC Acadia, Canyon, Savana, Sierra, Terrain, or Yukon with factory remote start:
1. Point the RKE transmitter in the direction of your vehicle.
2. Press and release the button that looks like a padlock.
3. Directly after pressing the padlock, press and hold the circular arrow button until the turn signals on your GMC vehicle begin to flash. If you are not in view of your auto, press and hold the circular arrow button for two to four seconds.
4. Your GMC vehicle has now been successfully started remotely.
Used GMC Remote Start with an App
On some newer GMC models, you can remote start the vehicle with either the OnStar app or myGMC mobile app. To remotely start your properly equipped GMC model with the myGMC mobile app, you have to have an active Remote Access Plan or Unlimited Access Plan subscription. Once you're in the myGMC app, press on the "Remote Commands/ Key Fob" button. This will bring up the options to remotely turn on your GMC vehicle – as well as lock or unlock it or flash its lights if you can't remember where you parked.
Change Remote Start Settings
To change the remote start settings, you have to be inside your GMC. On the console, go to Settings > Vehicle > Remote Lock, Unlock, Start.
Note: If the heated/vented seat option is selected on the remote start, the seat button indicators do not illuminate, and the temperature of the unoccupied seat may be reduced during the remote start. The heated/ventilation turns off when the ignition is turned on.
What Happens After Using GMC Remote Start
After activating the Remote Start system, your GMC vehicle’s parking lights will illuminate and remain on for the duration of the Remote Start process. The GMC vehicle’s doors will automatically lock once Remote Start has been initiated.
